These camps offer students the opportunity to experience nature first-hand. The sponsoring organizations are dedicated to providing safe, worthwhile, and enjoyable educational experiences.
Fifth grade students attend a three-day, two-night outdoor science camp at the Angeles Crest Camp in the nearby mountains. This camp, run by Genesis Account, focuses on Creation. Students enjoy hiking and other outdoor activities. They also take classes in geology, biology, botany, and astronomy. In the evenings they attend Bible classes, which include songs and skits. The camp is typically held at the beginning of May.
Sixth grade students attend Rawhide Ranch in Bonsall (inland from Oceanside) for four days and three nights. Rawhide is a working ranch where students have the opportunity to learn about, and care for, a variety of animals. They are responsible for feeding horses, sheep, cattle, goats, chickens, and rabbits, as well as tending to their stalls and pens.
Students also receive instruction in horsemanship, including bareback riding and vaulting. A rodeo/animal show on the final day of camp allows the students to display their newfound skills and knowledge.
Each day the students also participate in Bible classes and programs designed to give them a stronger foundation in their faith and make them aware of the challenges awaiting them in junior high school.
Rawhide Ranch is usually held at the beginning of May.
In both grades, science camp is part of the curriculum. For parents' convenience, camp costs are included in fifth and sixth grade tuition fees.
